HOCC Stigma and Disclosure Workshop
Workshop Goals:
- Provide an overview of stigma and its effect on those people living with, affected
by, or at risk for HIV. - Discuss how stigma fuels disclosure challenges for people living with HIV/AIDS.
- Provide an overview of disclosure and the role for providers in their client’s disclosure process.
- Provide supportive counseling tips for promoting safe disclosures.
- Share personal stigma and disclosure experiences.
- Brainstorm strategies for supporting client’s challenges related to the disclosure process.
- Discuss a disclosure case study.
Learning Objectives:
- By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Discuss different types of stigma and how each can negatively impact on the health and wellness of those living with or affected by HIV.
- Describe how stigma and disclosure can negatively affect people’s access and adherence to HIV prevention, care and treatment services.
- Support clients to understand the advantages and disadvantages of disclosure in their lives.
- Provide supportive counseling to clients to decide about and prepare for disclosure
